EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP & BOARD ADVISOR
Process Safety Governance: What Your Board Doesn’t Know Is Your Greatest Liability
Most catastrophic process safety incidents are not caused by technical failures. They are caused by governance failures — gaps between what boards and executives believed about their safety posture and what was actually true at the operational level. Kenan Stevick works directly with boards, CEOs, and general counsels to close that gap before a federal investigation, a catastrophic incident, or a shareholder lawsuit forces the conversation.
Proven Executive Workshop
Kenan co-developed and delivers the CCPS executive leadership workshop on process safety governance, based on the book he co-authored. He has conducted 20 workshops for executive leadership teams including CEOs. The workshop has been adopted by the American Chemistry Council as a standard intervention for member companies seeking to improve process safety performance, and participating organizations have demonstrated measurable improvement. The workshop includes pre-work assessment, a full-day interactive session, and a 6-month follow-up review.
Board-Level Governance Assessments
Kenan has conducted board-commissioned Process Safety Management System assessments for major chemical companies, using the CCPS Risk Based Process Safety framework informed by his 44 years of operational experience applied across multiple U.S. sites and corporate headquarters. These assessments provide boards and executive teams with an independent, evidence-based evaluation of their process safety governance posture against CCPS standard of care frameworks. One client achieved a 50% reduction in Tier 1 & 2 incidents within three years of implementing the assessment recommendations, with ongoing executive advisory to sustain improvement.

Engagement Model
Kenan works on a retained advisory basis with executive teams and as a project-based assessor for boards conducting governance reviews. Board level and PSMS assessments include a design phase with an executive sponsor, a focused executive briefing, and a six-month follow-up review. All work is delivered personally by Kenan — you work with the author of the standard of care, not a team briefed by him.
The cost of getting process safety wrong is measured in lives and dollars — and it presents a material risk to the future of your company.
